My role is the Chief of Safety of the Society of Aeronautics and Rocketry (SOAR) at USF, one of 7 executive Board Positions of the club, as well as being the Safety Lead for the NASA Student Launch (NSL) 2025 competition year. This role has thought me invaluable lessons about leadership, teamwork and the importance of establishing communication and networks within a business.
My first year at SOAR, I was one of the payload specialists for the 2024 NSL rocket, where I got a learned to understand the foundation of the club as a whole. This assisted with my role as Chief of Safety for the following year as my main objective was to ensure SOAR had the required facilities and machinery to construct their current and future rockets. These vehicles are all built in house with exception of the motor, so having this equipment readily available for the club was a necessity.
The Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA) is a non-profit organization that administers nationally recognized high power rocket certifications for anyone to learn how to build, launch and teach others how to fly rockets. I am a level 1 instructor with TRA and have mentored 5 students on getting their own level 1 certification.
